Discover Sool Tong

If you're in Melbourne and craving something comforting and satisfying, head over to 207 Queen St, where you'll find a delightful restaurant serving Sool Tong - a traditional Korean soup that's rich in flavor and perfect for warming you up, especially on a chilly day. Known for its hearty and wholesome ingredients, Sool Tong is a must-try for anyone who enjoys authentic Korean cuisine.

At this cozy spot, you’ll find the perfect blend of fresh ingredients, skilled preparation, and rich flavors that make Korean food stand out. The menu features a range of dishes, but Sool Tong steals the show with its deliciously flavorful broth, usually made from beef or pork, simmered to perfection. The soup is traditionally served with tender pieces of meat, glass noodles, and an array of vegetables, all swimming in a savory broth that's both comforting and filling. It’s the ideal dish if you’re after something hearty but not too heavy.

What makes Sool Tong stand out at this restaurant is its authenticity. Unlike many places that might alter traditional recipes for convenience or local taste preferences, the chefs here stay true to the classic methods. The broth is made from scratch, using a slow-cooking process that extracts all the rich flavors from the bones and ingredients. It’s this dedication to authenticity that sets this restaurant apart from others in Melbourne, where many dishes often feel watered down to suit different palates.

One of the highlights of the restaurant is its welcoming atmosphere. As soon as you step inside, the inviting warmth from the kitchen and the rustic décor makes you feel at home. The service is friendly and attentive, ensuring that you feel comfortable and well taken care of throughout your meal. Many visitors have praised the staff for their knowledge of the menu and their willingness to explain the different dishes, which makes it easier for first-timers to navigate the menu and make informed choices.

The restaurant also offers a variety of sides and accompaniments to complement your Sool Tong experience. You can enjoy classic banchan (small side dishes) such as kimchi, pickled radishes, and sautéed vegetables, each one prepared with care to balance the rich flavors of the soup. This attention to detail is part of what makes dining here an authentic Korean experience, rather than just a meal.

If you're looking to dive deeper into Korean flavors, you might also consider trying some of the other dishes on the menu. The restaurant serves a great variety of Korean BBQ, as well as bibimbap and jjigae (stew). Each dish is crafted with fresh ingredients and seasoned perfectly, creating a satisfying meal every time.

Visitors often return for the consistency and quality of the food. The restaurant's Sool Tong is especially recommended for those seeking comfort food that’s filling yet light, and the rich flavors will linger long after you've finished your bowl. It's not just the taste that keeps customers coming back but also the genuine experience of enjoying a meal that's both traditional and thoughtfully prepared.

The restaurant’s location, 207 Queen St in Melbourne, VIC 3000, is easily accessible whether you're walking through the city or looking for a cozy place to stop after a day of sightseeing. It's a great spot for both locals and tourists alike, offering an authentic taste of Korea right in the heart of Melbourne. Plus, with its wide range of menu options, there’s something for everyone.

Overall, whether you’re a fan of Korean food or new to it, this restaurant offers a delightful experience with its delicious Sool Tong and other Korean classics. The commitment to using traditional methods, combined with modern service and a warm atmosphere, makes this a dining destination worth visiting again and again.

  • Kept it simple at Sool Tang, ordering the Army Stew and a Bibimbap. The food was decent overall — nothing extraordinary, but it tasted pretty good for what it was. The Army Stew had a nice flavour, though the broth got quite thick after simmering for a while. There was plenty of sausage and spam inside, but I didn’t quite like the pork belly in it. The Bibimbap was fine — standard flavours, though quite light on beef and protein for the price. At around $40 for the stew and $20 for the rice bowl, it felt a little steep for what you get. Cosy spot, but portions and value could be better.

  • This is the kind of place that turns a walk-past into a regular. Unpretentious, generous, and full of heart. It doesn’t shout for attention, but earns it one dish at a time. It's a beautifully hidden two-story Korean gem that after all these years, needs to be put on the map for being cozy, authentic, and genuinely doing everything to a high standard. The Cold Noodle Soup With Kimchi was a standout for being refreshing with springy noodles that balance the sharpness of the kimchi well. It wasn't heavy and so easy to devour. Loving everything kimchi, be sure to order extra of the pickled Chef’s Special Kimchi alongside the Torch Seared Pork Jowl or the Mixed Sashimi Platter. But skip the Mixed Sashimi Rice Bowl which is better left for a light casual lunch. The La Galbi is a new addition on their menu and is as good as anywhere else I've had it but didn't wow me as much as the Pork Bone Soup which tasted like home comfort in a stone pot. It really is one of those Melbourne gems that reminds you why wandering the city with curious eyes pays off, it's not cheap but it's all sharing plates making for a decently priced full sized meal.

  • We visited Sooltong and ordered the crab stew, seafood pancake, and sashimi set. The crab stew was a standout — generous in portion, packed with flavour, and with a depth of spice that made it really comforting and satisfying. The seafood pancake was another highlight, served crisp on the outside with a nice mix of seafood pieces throughout, making it very enjoyable to share. The sashimi set, however, was quite disappointing. While it looked fresh when it arrived, the texture of the fish was unfortunately very tough and chewy, which really let the dish down and made it difficult to enjoy. Given sashimi is usually expected to be delicate and melt-in-the-mouth, this was a surprise and a bit of a letdown compared to the other dishes. That being said, the service was attentive and the atmosphere lively, giving the restaurant a warm, bustling feel. Overall, while the sashimi wasn’t up to standard, the other dishes carried the meal, and Sooltong is still worth a visit for its hot dishes and Korean favourites.

  • This time, I discovered a Korean restaurant that actually serves sashimi too! Aside from the sashimi, they have a wide variety of traditional Korean dishes, we saw a lot of people ordering this eight-dish meal set that looked like a great deal Small Sashimi Pork Bone Stew They offer three different sashimi platter sizes, and the small one was perfect for two people to share. It came with four types of fish, and you can wrap the sashimi with veggies and sauce which was super satisfyingThe pork bone stew was just okay taste-wise, but the portion was also just right for two people. You can add some sides or noodles to make it a bit more filling One thing to note: they don’t serve free side dishes here, which is a bit unusual for a Korean spot. But on the plus side is that you can get 5% off if you pay with cash
